Price: £26.50
USP: Promising to be like “a large glass of sparkling water” for the skin, this is a hydrating serum that increases the efficacy of subsequent moisturisers.
Pros: Weeks of cold weather has turned my skin into an arid zone that nothing will shift, so I don’t have high hopes for this lightweight serum. I’m surprised however as it’s super-hydrating without being greasy and is absorbed quickly. The pump action packaging is easy to use and the scent is pleasant. A real hero.
Cons: I’m still using my regular moisturiser on top of this so it is an added expense.

Stockist: Olay
USP: All the usual benefits of the high-performing Regenerist range (anti-ageing, hydrating) but with a new high SPF.
Pros: The handy bottle not only helps to preserve its contents but two pumps dispenses the exact amount for your face. The recent cold snap has left my skin feeling tight and flaky but this cream soon remedies that as it’s intensely nourishing.
Cons: The product is very white so I have to be careful to blend it all in to prevent any residue. It’s a heavy-duty cream and whilst it sorts out any dry skin it left a sticky sheen on my face.

Stockist: Lancome
USP: A super-rich moisturiser with peptides that apparently target the genes in your skin that form wrinkles.
Pros: So many, where to start. It smells delicious and it has a super rich texture that makes my skin feel like it’s drinking in lots of goodness.
Cons: The initial finish on my skin is a little sticky when applied over other products but this quickly sinks in, so it’s hardly a negative.

Stockist: La Roche Posay
USP: A hydrating, soothing fluid that offers optimal comfort to irritated skin. Works to protect the skin, allowing it to repair itself quicker.
Pros: Despite initial reservations, within 24-hours my parched skin is soft again, as well as comforted and glowing. I’m now using this affordable cream twice a day and am hooked.
Cons: The clinical packaging and scent are a little off-putting.

USP: This promises to be anti-ageing and hydrating. I’m sold.
Pros: The thick, rich cream absorbs well and feels nourishing. I only need a small amount, as it’s highly concentrated and my dry patches vanish in days. My skin looks and feels well hydrated.
Cons: I’m not so keen on the natural protein-derived scent and colour – it smells odd and looks like putty. I find this too rich as a daily moisturiser, but it’s good as an intense night cream.
