It doesn't matter where I am travelling to I am incapable of packing light. The words 'capsule wardrobe' mean nothing to me. But this Sunday I really do need to pack light, no excess baggage allowed. I mean have you seen those runners who do the marathon carrying a fridge? In awe. Now, I know yesterday I admitted to buying a bigger bum bag but I intend to plan exactly what is going inside so it's only the things I need (for every possible eventuality, of course).

I will be carrying:

High 5 Energy Gel I have practiced running with these on my longer runs. Each sachet contains 23g of carbohydrate, and as our bodies draw on our carbohydrate stores during long runs they are a handy running aid to help keep you going. The Citrus Blast flavour is my favourite.

Compeed Anti Blister Stick. I'm a sucker for good branding and this, I'm guessing, works pretty similar to Vaseline in that you slather it onto the areas that tend to chaffe and this will help stop it. I haven't used it before because I don't really chaffe but you know, it's good to be prepared and I've never run this far before.

Nuun tablets. These tablets help replenish the essential electrolytes you lose through sweating to help ward off fatigue. They taste good too, simply pop a couple in your water bottle; I like the Grape and Strawberry Lemonade flavours.

Compeed Blister Plasters. These padded plasters make any blister not hurt. Genius.

Paracetamol. In case I suffer any aches and pains - I usually take a couple before and during only if needed.

Imodium. Running for a long time can irritate our intestines and lead to another type of, err, run...

Earplugs. I have noisy neighbours (are you reading this flat 6!? They have a child who either has a keyboard with a demo button or she is a 21st century Beethoven). Oh, and I have a boyfriend who breathes heavily / snores. You're unlikely to sleep well on Saturday night if you're a little anxious - I know I won't sleep well, so try to make sure you get a good night's sleep this tomorrow and Friday night. ear plugs optional.

Tonight: Make sure you know what you want to take on the run with you, then head to your local pharmacy and stock up. Don't leave it until Saturday, because that is a much-needed rest day. Pop all your bits into your bum bag, strap it on and do a little jog around your living room to check it's not too cumbersome, you have to carry that sh!t for 26.2 miles.
