As a beauty editor—and someone who once slipped into Kim Kardashian's shapewear in the name of journalism—"liquid spanx" for under-eye bags just sounds like the holy grail of skincare tech. Throw in the fact that the scientists behind the innovation are also the masterminds that have worked on Living Proof's game-changing hair offerings, and it adds serious clout to the almost-too-good-to-be-true claim.
Created by Olivo Labs' Robert Langer, an MIT chemical engineer and co-founder of Living Proof, the treatment functions like invisible shapewear using a special skin-conforming polymer film technology. It tightens, smoothes, and re-contours the eye area for up to 24 hours at a time and all you need is an oil-free makeup remover to remove it.
As you can imagine, it isn't exactly a slap-on-and-go kind of process. To adhere the second-skin-like treatment, you start with a "reshaping" base on clean skin using a special applicator tool, let it dry for a couple of minutes, then add on a second "activating" layer which does the serious shrinking—bags gone, fine lines diffused. The effect is reminiscent of the Old-Hollywood-era trick of using hidden surgical tape to pull the skin up around the face, but a lot less abrasive to the delicate skin on and around the hairline.
While the tech is a few years old, according to WWD, big beauty players are looking into licensing the technology, which means it *could* become more mass in the near future. Watch the treatment in action below:
