If there's ever been a time when Helen Mirren hasn't been an absolute legend then, frankly, we can't remember it.

Between rocking pink hair and sky high stripper heels on the red carpet, being praised by Ryan Reynolds via Twitter and shutting down sexist interview questions way back in 1975, it's basically a known fact that Helen Mirren is seriously great.

Even 50 Cent loves her.

So as the actress spoke to the Telegraph about her skincare routine, we weren't exactly surprised when, despite being a L'Oréal ambassador, Mirren went on to reveal what we've all suspected about our collection of moisturisers, serums and everything in between - that they might not actually do anything at all.

'I'm an eternal optimist — I know that when I put my moisturiser on it probably does fuck all, but it just makes me feel better.'

Hitting us with those truth bombs one after another Helen.

To our well-trained industry ears this doesn't sound like the usual PR from a major beauty brand, but we're guessing the 72-year-old wasn't too worried about her contract, going on to say, 'I've always said to L'Oréal as well that I will only do what makes me feel better.'

Now that's something we can endorse.

Ever a champion of diversity and equality, and as one of the few women over 60 with a major skincare brand ambassador role, Mirren continued on, commenting on the issue of older women being under-represented within the beauty industry:

'It used to drive me crazy that the ads promoting skin products were using pictures of 15- and 16-year-old girls,' Mirren said. 'As a 30-year-old, I used to look at that and think, what the fuck are you talking about? It was ridiculous. Pissed me off majorly. Advertisers are only just coming out of that, and it's taken them a long time.'

You said it Helen.
