Situated in the heart of the Sussex countryside and within walking distance of the sandy beach at Climping is the Bailifscourt Hotel and Spa.

Arriving at Bailifscourt feels like stepping back in time. Peacocks roam the grounds and small rural outhouses surround the grand hotel building. Inside the hotel a cosy, historic feel comes complete with burning log fires and huge sofas. Guests at the hotel can use the spa facilities for free and if you’re visiting for the day you will need to spend £100 on treatments to use the facilities.

Spa days include a light lunch but if you are visiting for a special occasion we recommend sampling lunch or dinner in the main house as a treat. A short walk from the hotel is the spa, in keeping with the look of the hotel it has the exterior appearance of a barn. However once inside you’ll find a surprisingly modern interior (it was built in 2003). The entrance and reception area are imposing and grand with large sofas looking onto the indoor pool, which in turn looks out through large windows to the outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and grounds. The facilities include sauna, steam room, gym and a changing area and treatment rooms are set upstairs away from the bustle of reception and the sounds from the pool and gym, meaning you can truly relax while being pampered.

The Mediterranean Float is well worth a try. Starting with dry body brushing your therapist then uses a Sugar Buff to thoroughly exfoliate the skin, this is rinsed away with hot flannels, and followed by All-in-All moisturiser. Next you are wrapped up in warm towels to help the moisturiser sink in and nourish the skin. Your facial now begins, using products tailored to your skin’s needs. We like the Power Breakfast: a scrub and mask all in one, it can be used to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. Power Breakfast scrub is used in most facials at Bailifscourt and is a product we think is well worth taking home (all the products are by Temple and created exclusively for the spa). For a nourishing and more relaxing facial try the Quenched and Drenched Facial which is perfect for dry skin.

The spa itself is great for a day trip, however a stay at the quiet yet grand hotel will be just right for city dwellers who need a change of pace for a few days.

Best for: Couples, small groups of friends and mother and daughters.
