The grand 5- star Seaham Hall Hotel and Serenity Spa is well worth a visit, just don’t plan a detox while you’re there, the Michelin starred restaurant is sure to tempt you from your virtuous ways.
Designed around the principles of Feng Shui, the spa is all flowing water and oriental influences. It’s cleverly laid out; you can get to the spa from the hotel via an underground walkway suspended over water pools and pebbles, so you don’t have to face hotel guests or the Baltic north east weather in winter after a relaxing treatment.
The spa is home to a multitude of facilities that will keep you occupied all day, including ice fountains, hammams, outdoor hot tubs and plunge pools, there also a hair salon, Hooker and Young, with a private VIP area which has been graced by best pals Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.
We tried the The Jessica Pedicure with Heat Treatment, £45 which lasts an hour and is one of the most thorough pedicures we’ve experienced. The Serenity Spa Signature Hot Foot and Scalp Ritual, £60 is also a great way to unwind, hot stones are used to relieve muscle aches, while Elemis’ Instant Refreshing Gel leaves tired legs revived and refreshed. The scalp massage is bliss - we just wish it lasted a bit longer.
Finish your visit by dropping into the Zen Lounge to replenish your water reserves and take an indulgent afternoon nap.
