Since ombré hair made Alexa Chung the most popular celebrity ever to be referenced in a hair dye appointment (I made that up but I’m pretty confident it is true), there is yet to be a genuine beauty phenomenon to top it.
We want to be buzzy. We get excited about hair plopping and 3D lipsticking, but really they’re just names for something that already exists. (Putting your wet hair into a loose towel and letting it dry in curls, and using two tones of your lipstick then blending, respectively).
There are two that have come to the fore recently, #bronde, and #strobing. They’re so hot right now, your Instagram feed will probably be awash with these buzzword hashtags. And, if you’re a subscriber to the buzz, like our own Natalie Lukaitis, you might even be booking in for a #Bronde-over ASAP.
I have news for you, Natalie. After the tonal blending, #bronde is essentially where blonde meets brunette — as in light brunette, or dark blonde. Someone in our planning meeting this morning suggested maybe its just a fancy name for ‘mousey’, in which case more power to you natural ‘Brondes’. You are officially ‘on fleek’ (I think).
Beyoncé’s own make up artist, Sir John, is with me on this one. With regards to the #strobing phenomena he has this to say:
"Strobing is not something new, we’ve been doing it for a while. It's the same thing as highlighting, but with a different name.”
