Your calendar for the next month is packed with the regular run of meetings, deadlines, cocktail catch-ups, weddings and the odd festival (that you're actually dreading but have real FOMO about if you don't go).

Between it all you have your phone incessantly buzzing with birthday reminders, Instagram alerts and messages from that one friend that always wants to 'go for one' after work.

If we're honest, we don't really make plans to sleep. We fit it in whenever we can to the point where we're on the verge of insomnia and value pro-longed blinking as the equivalent of taking a 30-minute nap.

We may have our minds fooled, but our bodies and face may need a little more effort to hide the tell-tale signs. Don't fret. Here are ELLE team's best tips for looking fresh and well rested (even when you're not).

Sophie Beresiner, Beauty Director

I recommend using an overnight treatment to take advantage of the peak time when your skin is in its natural recovery mode. That way the product does all the hard work for you and you wake up looking like you've had 8 hours sleep instead of 4. ELLE loves the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, £50 for 30ml.

When all else fails, I slap on some red lipstick to instantly perk up my face. It's my failsafe to distract from too-much-red-wine tired eyes and it's an easy way to look made-up with minimal effort. Win, win.

Eva Pineda, Beauty Assistant

Always curl your lashes to open up your eyes, even if you don't apply mascara – I swear by it. I also apply a highlight to the highest point of my cheekbones, eyelids and down the centre of my nose to give the illusion of glowing, healthy skin.

The traditional one, for when it's really bad I apply an overnight treatment or eye cream on my eye bags to reduce inflammation. Also putting spoons in the freezer then dabbing them on your eyes for before applying make-up calms down any puffiness.

Coconut water! Fast tracking rehydrating and makes you feel amazing and is a little more of a treat than just water. Also a bright lip (I like orangey/coral) to detract from tired eyes. The simple theory of misdirection.

Plunge your face into a sink full of cold water with lots of ice and hold it in there for as long as you can! It really wakes you up and makes your skin feel so tight and refreshed.

Applying lots of moisturiser to really rehydrate, because my skin gets really dry, especially after an alcohol-heavy night!
