Christopher Raeburn

The unglamorous world of WWII sea forts inspired the autumn/winter 2013 offering from Christopher Raeburn. Bleak and industrial it may sound - and, thanks to the especially commissioned soundtrack made up of noises captured on location, we actually could hear how it sounded - but Raeburn is something of a magician, turning utilitarian staples into luxe, covetable pieces. The functional, workwear influences were evident but blended with sporty overtones. Coats and jackets are his bread and butter, and for anyone looking for next season's cover up there were plenty to choose from. Cropped bombers and biker jackets in steel grey wool covered in lace print, bronze quilting or black mesh layered over hot pink lining; a stiff grey checked duffel coat; a beautiful grey wool trench flecked with bright blue and bronze; and lightweight parkas with oversized hoods. But the label has evolved since its parachute-mac beginnings, and the pencil skirts, sporty tabard dresses, and tailored trousers were every bit as covetable as the outerwear. And then there were the bags, which are gradually being expanded each season. We particularly have our eye on the utility fabric and leather backpacks. The thing we love most about Christopher Raeburn is that his pieces not only have the high fashion stamp but they're designed to actually keep you warm and dry. To be honest we could do with snaffling some of the pieces to wear during this chilly week, but we'll definitely be adding them to our shopping least for next season.
