Tomas Maier caused quite a stir amongst the assembled fashion crowd this morning.

Generally regarded as the epitome of understated luxury, Bottega Veneta's spring collection has a serious whiff of cool about it.

The nineties house soundtrack compiled by music maestro Michel Gaubert, was the first sign that change was in the air. And gone were last season's ultra-polished beehives, replaced by casually swept up wet hair. And the first few looks had serious sex appeal ;dresses covered in mottled print riffed on the corset, complete with hook and eye fastening and suspender strap-like details, but maintained elegance with a knife pleated skirts; cotton shifts and buttoned up shirt dresses came with leather or glossy pvc panels, as did some beautifully cut blazers.

There was an Ibiza feel to the spray painted jeans, the tomato red silk tunic and the seriously luxe leather jackets. But the refined, ladylike spirit wasn’t banished altogether. There were a clutch of stunning dresses to choose from -beautifully printed shifts had gathered strips of coloured chiffon running in panels down the front, colourful silk dresses were embellished with mirrored shapes and the closing gowns, floor grazing and trailing layers of coloured chiffon behind them, were just crying out to be worn on the red carpet.
