The Burberry show was streamed live on ELLEuk.com and across the globe in 3D. Considering the hammering rain at its London venue of The Chelsea College of Art - escaping the weather and watching the action from the comfort of home might have been the right idea.

Outside, Burberry had considerately positioned a fleet of male models to escort guests under umbrellas. But the stormy theme continued inside as a soundtrack of heavy rain played as guests took their seats. Why the rain? Burberry is known for its trench coats and wellington boots but for Autumn Winter 2010, it made a departure from this signature; next season it has created an ode to other coats instead.

Leather sheepskin bomber jackets, navy pea-coats, military jackets, equestrian blazers, black peaked-shoulder coats with bow detail... there was one for every occasion, all worn with leather and sheepskin boots that ended just short of the crotch.

At the end of a fashion week that has seen the majority of designers concentrate on the perfect coat, Burberry's show neatly cements this trend.

And what to wear under the coat? Some looks did perfectly well without anything, but Burberry's slim-fit, ankle-length wool trousers and velvet-strip dresses will do beautifully.
