As if tennis wasn't already sexy enough, David Koma just went and waved his vampish wand over it.
David Koma has been spending the last few summers hanging out with tennis stars, and it's obviously rubbed off on him.
'I got to know a few tennis players over the past few summers and I really enjoyed spending time with them and also discovering the other side to that strong and driven exterior that we normally see - the fun side,'' explained the Georgian designer backstage.
That play of contrasts manifested itself in hot little tennis dresses that drew on all the Koma trademarks: body-con jersey, skin-tight hourglass lines and sky high hemlines - only this time, they were subtly shrouded under peekaboo boxy cut tees made of double organza.
Naughty but nice, strong but soft, it was a delightful play-off that we’re not used to seeing from the Georgian designer, who normally favours the kind of no-quastions-asked mega-watt sex appeal required by his legions of red carpet fans - Cheryl Cole and Beyonce amongst them.
But the starlets and socialites will be kept more than satisfied with the tennis dresses, which came in a palette of black, turtle green, tangerine orange and centre-court white. Koma loves to work in a variety of fabrics and so we saw strips of patent leather adding provocation to sporty-cut dresses. Wide pleats of silk were cut to hang from the hip, to swish and flash provocatively as you walk. And there was a ‘very modern kind of jersey’ that Koma ‘found it a challenge to work with because of its sculptural nature’ – but he obviously came out on top in that match.
And judging by the pleased faces on front row fans Corinne Bailey Rae, Delilah and Pixie Lott, he’s won the title, too.
