While Diane von Furstenberg’s clothes have always been universally appealing, for autumn winter 2012 the designer upped the sophistication quotient—perhaps the missing piece of the puzzle her show invitation alluded to.

Distinctly Parisian and highly appealing, the talents no doubt are shared by von Furstenberg’s French creative director, Yvan Mispelaere. “Glamorous at a moment’s notice,” read the show notes, [she is] “effortless and elaborate,” bearing “a heightened awareness to the promise of places she has not yet been.”

While past collections have inundated the catwalk with signature prints, Team DVF pared things down significantly for autumn winter, which, surprisingly, made the offerings all that more appealing. Among the stand-outs were a sleeveless cerulean blue top with a deep red pencil skirt, an asymmetric pink jumpsuit worn with an aubergine coat and mustard-hued trousers accessorised with a gold belt. Von Furstenberg designs for the classic woman who is empowered to forge her own path; in these clothes, she’ll be a blockbuster be it day or night.
