Diane von Furstenberg has led a charmed life and her Spring Summer 13 captured something of its magic.
'Some fairy tales end with the girl marrying the prince... some start there,' read the quote at the top of the program notes, talking of course about the designer herself. She and creative director Yvan Mispelaere created clothes for that woman: spirited, bohemian and exotic.
This meant billowing silk palazzo pants and jewelled sari drapes, embellished tunics and fabulous shoes beaded all over with little silver baubles. Caftans and wrap dresses came in jewelled colours, always worn over narrow trousers.
There were hints of the '60s and sportswear too – shaping up to be big themes this season – but the overarching sense was of adventure.
And as if to prove the rebellious spirit hasn’t left her, Diane von Furstenberg took her bow with Google founder Sergey Brin, both wearing Glass by Google glasses – new technology that allows the wearer to make a digital film of what they’re seeing. That’s something we’d all want to watch.
