Much hoo-ha surrounded today's Christian Dior spring summer 2012 show at Paris Fashion Week.

Few designers weren't touted as possible replacements for John Galliano. But with a final decision to be announced in a few weeks, it was left to housekeeper Bill Gaytten to charge this collection.

A white strip light travelled the length of the plain marquee in the grounds of Musee Rodin to open the show. New beginnings? Not quite, but instead a greatest hits featuring dropped kimono sleeves, classic Dior silhouettes, wide-cut necklines and diaphanous gowns. There was a dress for every occasion, spanning the decades and resulting in an enormously saleable collection. This will disappoint many of the critics in situ eager for some drama and this was voiced by the departing guests. But it's sure to delight the customers—and let's not forget, that is what this is about.

Upbeat, impeccably stylish and a wonderful bare Kloss bottom sashaying beneath sheer organza as sign off. Take that, critics.
