Emilio De La Morena is one of the more sensual designers on the London schedule so to see him look to leather to for autumn 12 was somewhat of a surprise.

De la Morena applied his signature romantic handwriting to long-line dresses and separates, including tops which ran from hoods to belted waists in a stoical palette of black.

In the main leather was used as panelling or as a detail, yet it packed a powerful punch on slash front blouses tucked into high-waist skirts. Ox-blood high shine fabric was used to peplum skirts which underpinned the collection with an almost fetishist handle.

Trousers were rather simple but gave the collection a wearable quality, while the strongest parts of the line came from extra-long skirts which looked digitally printed with eerie natural landscapes and were teamed with high-shine leather tops with high-cut necklines and closely-cut cap sleeves.

Autumn 12 exhibited a slightly more sombre and edgy aesthetic than we are used to seeing from the Spanish designer, yet despite this step change the collection lacked none of de La Morena’s clever cutting and class.
