After the riot of colour that we’ve seen in Milan so far, the monochrome focus of Emoprio Armani was quite the palette cleanser.

The first half of the collection stuck firmly to black and white, to such and extent that pairs of models took to the runway wearing the same looks but in reverse - a pair of black silk trousers with white trim was mirrored b a black pair with white trim, a white, capped sleeve jacket with Perspex lapels was also show in black and so on.

But there were splashes of colour. A delicate watercolour-like wash of lilac and green appeared on silk trousers and shifts, a bold floral print covered dresses that were worn against shimmering sequins and high necked shirt dresses came in parma violet and mint green.

The pieces had an elegant, retro feel from the hooped, stand out hems to the dropped waist, boyish dresses and the masculine/feminine blend that ruled at the beginning of the 1920s. And the show closed with another pair of models, one dressed in a chic sequin dress and one in androgynous tailoring  - introducing the Emporio bride and groom.
