A reminder that New York Fashion Week presentations can be a lot of fun, Erin Wasson + RVCA was as much rock show as fashion show.

With Bruce Willis and gorgeous new wife Emma Heming, Alexa Chung and boyfriend Alex Turner, it-girl Cory Kennedy and NY photographer Cobrasnake all sitting front and centre and compelling Brooklyn noise band, Gang Gang Dance performing live, it was easy to forget what this event was all about – a collaboration between street wear label RVCA and Alexander Wang muse and model Erin Wasson. Against projections of sun-drenched Californian imagery and with a hypnotic tribal drumming

sound track dissolving into calypso rhythms, models stepped onto the catwalk in bohemian 1970s meets 1990s effortlessly cool, casual summer clothes. The collection epitomised what girl-of-the-moment Wasson is all about – chic and cool style, all thrown-together with an unmistakable rock n roll edge. Washed-out skinny jeans, bleach-splattered army jackets and cut-off shorts all added the cool element, while chalk, oatmeal and sand-coloured casual T-dresses and supple leather skirts and waistcoats (that could have stepped straight out of 1990s cult slacker film ‘Dazed & Confused’) added chic. Tie-dye was scattered throughout, leggings were knee-length, scrunched and layered and the suggestive cut-outs, rips and tears that covered sweaters, dresses and tees were suggestive and just sexy enough – after all, summer is about showing a little skin.
