It's just two years since design duo Fyodor Golan won the much-coveted Fashion Fringe award and they've already established themselves as ones to watch on the fashion week schedule. The pair aren't concerned with creating everyday, practical pieces. Instead their focus is on luxury, opulence and the wow factor. They choose beautiful fabrics and fold, drape, pleat and tuck them until they're transformed into origami-like creations. They print, embroider and embellish until the pieces are irresistibly tactile and incredibly intricate.
The grand, elegant surroundings of The Savoy Hotel's ballroom embodied their aesthetic pretty perfectly. The stand-out pieces of the 'Belle Du Jour' collection were dresses of every permutation. Super-short, off the shoulder mini dresses that folded away from the body were emblazoned with hand drawn prints; a sheer pleat-fronted dress over laid shimmering blush-pink sequins; a seriously covetable blue floral print dress was worn with an extraordinary printed round head piece. There were soft leather, form fitting frocks, burnt orange organza pieces and a clutch of long sleeved silk shifts with ruffles zig-zagging gently across the front.
The duo did nod to separates too, with a white patent leather hooded mac and matching pencil skirt, a floor sweeping navy wool coat that was nipped in at the waist, a pink, quilted cropped cocoon jacket paired with a daringly-slit pencil skirt and even some burnt orange knits with metallic threads. But there's no getting away from it - when itc omes to Fyodor Golan the dress is the thing.
