With film noir as her backdrop and a smoky stage and dark mood lighting that set the scene, Jenny Packham showed what she does best: red carpet.

The elegantly cut gowns—be they one-shouldered, embroidered with jewelled sleeves or curve-inducing hourglass—had a sensual mix of Angelina Jolie meets Kate Middleton (both, incidentally, big fans).

With models sporting rolled-under bangs and a back bun, the collection’s Hollywood appeal was sealed. This ’40s-inspired collection was a stunning example of how to masterfully create sequined, curve-conscious—and flattering—red carpet gowns. The gun metal studs, molten silvers and gold encrusted panel gowns spoke for themselves. Accentuated with bow-tied red or black belts, the dresses, both short and long, offered that perfect mix of pretty and sexy. While much of the collection dovetailed toward the body-clinging femme fatale type (a la Jolie), the handful of serene pastel pink and blue gowns seemed destined for at least one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s future black-tie outings.
