It was inevitably the show to draw the most intrigue - certainly of the day, if not of the entire Paris Fashion Week schedule; what would happen at the John Galliano show?

Would there be a scene outside? Would editors attend at all? In the end, after scaling back the show to a presentation - or billed as such - they came in their droves out of support, morbid fascination, duty or all of the above.

A few camera crews lurked outside hoping to capture an incident that never materialised. Inside editors surged to gain access to this oversubscribed salon show that harked back to the days of Galliano before his now famously theatrical circus spectaculars.

With model Karlie Kloss opening and Christian Dior CEO and Galliano backer Sidney Toledano shepherding attendants, this was not a label embracing a social desert.

The house atelier completed the final touches to the collection as its designer was swept away to rehab, but it had Galliano's fingerprint all over it. Despite the frenzy surrounding his personal life, he can cut a dress and a robe like no other. And it was refreshing to see the beauty of the clothes laid bare without the usually exaggerated and complex styling. It was a poignant and sombre occasion which left us wondering how the next chapter will read.
