After last season’s grey and beige, Marc Jacobs threw a heady mix of colour at his spring summer show.

With the 70s as inspiration – done the New York way – Jacobs borrowed from Missoni’s iconic zigzag prints with coral, orange and yellow knitted dresses and tank tops worn with teeny hot pants.

With Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons blasting out, transparent kaftans wafted above sequin heels, topped with huge-brimmed hats, and giant corsage adorned shoulders, belts and headpieces.

The prevalent length was mid-calf, looking elegant and expensive on model frames but a crop that strikes the fear of god in to most.

After a triumphant autumn winter 2010, the subsequent collection will usually take a beating and there was a mixed response from the crowd. Tavi, sitting on my right, wasn’t a fan. She couldn’t sum up why, just wrinkled her nose. Even the free t-shirt with a naked Marc on couldn’t rouse her spirits. But the diehard fans left jubilant, happy to witness the King at work.
