Osman had even taken the care to curate the carpet of his autumn 12 show.

A fringed runner of rolling deep red and black abstract swirls was the platform from which Osman launched himself in a rather different guise for the autumn 12 season.

Rewind twelve months and Osman’s autumn 11 effort was super minimal, then came spring 12’s affair with colour and youthful fluidity – and yesterday he straddled both with simple cuts and a strong use of pattern .

The show marked returned to structure, and the designers penchant for minimalism still reigned, as did a rather regal brocade that was woven through the underskirts of conical dresses with dipped back hems.

Sleeves were trimmed with fur and leather was two-tone red and white, which added a further heavy richness to this already quietly opulent show.

The use of brocade incorporated a hint of extravagance that we rarely see from this low-profile designer, and it worked.
