Today saw Alistair Carr’s first collection for Pringle after the departure of Claire Waight Keller for Chloe, so there was an increased buzz around what was to come.

What came was a streamlined vision for the heritage label, back to basics with a graphic 60s redux of stretched Argyll prints on twinsets and shirts, hand intarsia and metallic jacquard. Lightweight sweaters are slashed open at the back, thick weaves create a waffle effect and squiggle prints are used on shirt-dresses and knitwear.

Much will be made of Carr’s former position at Balenciaga and the parallels of the house seen here, but this felt like a clean slate for Pringle and a great start from its new designer.
