Look and learn: Proenza Schouler's spring show is how you do a tribal or safari trend without dragging out the same old clichés.

The drum beat soundtrack indicated Africa, the orange shagpile carpet hinted at Austin Powers and there wasn't a khaki bush jacket in sight. Instead the best show of the New York season so far with clever working of raffia in to crochet, eel skirts, floral embroidery and conceptualised giraffe and tiger prints.

Hawaiian leaf prints further threw a curve ball to hackneyed safari themes of yore and added to the 70s undercurrent running through. A pure delight.
