Sir Phillip Green certainly knows how to put on a show, and pull in a celebrity or two while he’s at it, and at Topshop Unique’s latest catwalk presentation, the fashion pack was treated to the biggest celebrity turn out at London Fashion Week so far.

Kate Moss (in a trilby and hot pants) Jamie Hince, Leigh Lezark (in brand new Christopher Kane for Topshop) Peaches Geldof, Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung, Jamie Winstone, Julia Restoin-Roitfield, Jourdan Dunn, Liberty Ross and Twiggy, all turned out for Big Phil - most of them fully decked out in Topshop’s designs - naturally. After the paparazzi scrum, some of the audience didn’t even pretend to look at the clothes – with this many celebrities to peer at who can blame them. But those who did glance to the catwalk saw last season’s grunge theme continued for spring 2010 as models with hot pink lips, pale skin, and unkempt hair stepped out in grafitti print T-shirts and an abundance of sand-washed dirty denim that came ripped, baggy and patched. The theme had evolved for the new season, taking a sportier direction that’s just right for summer. Go faster stripes featured on tailoring, neon rubber cycling shorts were just seen under baggy denim shorts, jersey was slouchy and slashed and the palette was lighter dustier and love-worn - ranging from grey, biscuit, cream, navy and pink. (We particularly loved a biscuit and grey suedette with jersey sleeves baseball jacket that fits nicely into the all-American classic trend that appeared on the catwalks in NY last week.)
But let’s not forget Unique is Topshop’s highest priced range. Strip back the grunge styling and there were plenty of more chic and sophisticated pieces - like the tailored shorts and blazers, intricate silk panel cut dresses and black washed-silk drop crotch tailored trousers - all worthwhile buys that will keep the Topshop girl with a good job and designer aspirations coming back to the store to spend her hard earned cash next season.
