Topshop's progressive collection Unique may have lost the need for the Topshop brand name precursor, but the spirit, speed and experimental nature of the super-brand is very much alive in the higher end line.

Spring summer 2011 is inspired by "the world of magic and wonder", which seems as good a reason as any to channel a multitude of looks. First up we saw 70s disco glam represented in sequin flared jumpsuits and metallic all-in-ones. A golden horse print adorned jersey kick flares in a direct reference to Studio 54's Bianca Jagger moment.

A Midsummer Night's Dream fairytale came courtesy of tulle cape sleeves, billowing silk trains and fine sheer trousers. Then we met the Showgirl - as you well might have, piling clothes high in Topshop's Oxford Street flagship. Her dresses are daringly short from the front but positively bridal from the back to live the Princess dream. Asymmetric bodysuits with appliqué angel wings and sequin waistcoats ensured maximum attention. We even saw ripped and shredded denim jackets and cobweb tube dresses.

The shoes - a hugely popular focal point that now has a standalone concession in Selfridges - are, naturally, toweringly high. The height provided by a Perspex wedge, the base to brown leather sandals and boots.

As the girls took their finale en masse - with wild frizzed hair and confidence in abundance - it made for a striking picture. It may be magic and wonder but there's enough to go round for everyone.
