Wholesome Americana - we like the way you work it, Tory Burch

She’s something of a phenomenon, a self-taught designer who has built an empire on her own preppy good taste. But Tory Burch’s Spring Summer 13 catwalk show proved that knowing yourself is the greatest skill of all.

The entire collection was conceived as a kind of journey across America, from the prairie heartlands – seen as wheat-print dresses, modestly cut and worn with flat loafers – to the Navajo plains, with beaded slippers and sandals created by Tabitha Simmons.

There was a sweet sensibility to it all, a kind of simplicity in shape if not in scope. A lot of the pieces were basic, classic sportswear in printed cotton or linen, embellished but never overdone. It was impossible not to be charmed.
