Baby Harper on the front row made the Victoria, Victoria Beckham Spring Summer 13 show picture perfect
It’s hard to decide which was cuter: ten-month-old Harper sitting happily on her mother’s knee and watching the girls go by or the girlish dresses which Victoria Beckham presented in her diffusion collection.
This was a very different show to the one that received such acclaim on Sunday – and a very different designer. Wearing a khaki cotton-canvas minidress and chunky wedge boots, both from Spring Summer 13, she seemed much more at ease with the whole thing. Front and centre while editors arrived, she chatted and charmed with stories of Harper walking the runway: “I Tweeted a picture of it the other day. I just put her down and off she went!”
All this may be because Victoria Beckham realises that she’s on a creative roll. Or it may be because the Victoria, Victoria Beckham line says everything about her life right now.
It’s more relaxed while still being focused. It’s about daywear rather than the red carpet. And it has a sportier approach without compromising on quality.
“I often get asked how living in LA has influenced my aesthetic,” she notes, “and this season Californian street style has been a key inspiration.”
That sense of sunkissed nonchalance manifested itself in palm tree and bird prints, T-shirt shaped dresses and sleeveless shifts in shades of lemon, taupe and mint green. There were also lace and silk, slightly more structured but with the same easy spirit.
It was approachable and desirable – no wonder retailers say the label has consistently sold out since its launch last year.
So what next for the triumphant Mrs Beckham? A range of dresses to fit Harper? A fragrance? Even a London store? At this rate, all of the above.
