Beloved of both the fashion and art worlds, Maria Cornejo’s aesthetic resonates at an upper echelon level that equates to understated chic. Wearable but also stylish and fluid, Cornejo manages to consistently innovate, turning her design process into one of an art form.

An avid photographer, her prints often come from her best work; couple that with unexpected fabrics like bamboo, ceramica and alpaca and you get a woman who knows how to innovate. A study in volume done correctly, there was plenty to love for autumn winter 2012: an electric blue cocoon coat, a silk crepe and leather dress and a basketweave-esque skirt that was at once antique and modern. At the end of the day, Cornejo’s clothes are just easy to wear. Isn’t that the ultimate luxury?
