Unique

Their spring summer 2013 collection moved to capture even more of the market with ‘Celine for the masses’-style minimalism. But not without an added dose of Topshop fun.

It was written right there in the front row. Along with Olivia Palermo and Leigh Lezark , there were younger stars (Elle Fanning, looking sweet as a schoolgirl, and Shenae Grimes, who talked and made out with her boyfriend the whole time) and Garance Dore, Scott Schuman and Anna Dello Russo . And all of them could have found pieces to love.

But let’s back up a moment to consider the venue. After seasons shuttling back and forth between the old Eurostar terminal in Waterloo and the Old Billingsgate Market in the City, Topshop came up trumps with a central London venue. A giant enclosure in Bloomsbury’s Bedford Square houses an open marquee and a covered show space, within which crouches a cool white velodrome track of a U-shaped runway.

The clothes were just as cool as the setting. After Jourdan Dunn stepped out in the first look, a sheer white dress with strategically placed opaque panels, it was clear that this season would be a lighter continuation of the themes started in AW12. No bells, whistles, patterns or blaring embellishment here, thanks—just sleek, versatile clothes.

Standouts included wide-legged, silver lamé-fronted white trousers, oversized sleeveless biker jackets and a dipped-hem dress with a faded geometric print in black and white.

If it was a bit generic, the Twitter public didn't mind. They tuned in by the thousands and let @Topshop know about it in real time for the Tweetwalk campaign . And chances are, they'll follow through with a visit to Topshop.com
