Sunshine Cleaning film review

Sunshine Cleaning

At cinemas from 6 June 2009

Amy Adams and Emily Blunt work beautifully together in this offbeat indie about a pair of suburban sisters. Rose (Adams) is a single mother and cleaner having a fruitless affair with cop Mac (Steve Zahn) – fruitless, that is, until he suggests working as a crime-scene cleaner. Together with her rebellious sibling Norah (Blunt), Rose starts up a business cleaning up after accidents and suicides. Their amateur attempts are darkly funny, poignant and grisly, but both actresses bring a sweet touch to their characters and the tone is ultimately upbeat. With characterful supporting performances from Alan Arkin and Mary Lynn Rajskub (24), this movie is a little treasure to savour.
