Hostess Alexa Chung looked stunning with soft, brown smoky eyes, contoured cheeks and natural lips. Wearing a Stella McCartney suit and her hair blow-dried to look effortlessly beautiful it’s a look we’ll be coveting for a while.
US stars Christina Ricci and Gillian Anderson also opted for tonal make-up, softly smoked eyes and lip shades a couple of tones darker than their natural shade. Gillian’s hair was swept into a low bun, while Christina let her blunt fringe take centre stage with sleek hair.
Also keeping things subtle in the make-up department was Sarah Burton, Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael and actress Hayley Atwell, who all embraced subtle caramel shadows and rosebud-inspired lips.
Ramped up smoky eyes were flaunted by Poppy Delevigne and Lisa Snowdon who embraced the classic pairing of a smoky eye and nude lip. Lisa’s hair, styled by Zoe Irwin, was looking super glossy and suspiciously like she had been taking style tips from our future Queen, Kate Middleton. While Poppy left her striking Mary Katrantzou for Topshop dress to do all the talking with a super-sleek high ponytail which we loved.
But last night it was the classic red lip that reigned supreme. Best TV Actress Award winner Christina Hendricks flaunted a similar look to the one she wore at last night’s Baftas with a coral-red lip and matching crimson nails. Florence Welch, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, newcomer (and ELLE’s beauty one-to-watch) Jessica Chastain and Sophie Ellis-Bexter also worked a red lips in hues from pinky-red to orange-reds. But, it was Pixie Geldof who gave Christina Hendricks a run for her money in the best red lips stake with her striking matte, red version. Paired with a Marilyn-Monroe-meets-Debbie-Harry hairstyle, which she tweeted saying felt ‘very bouncy!’ and strong brows, it was a winning beauty look.
And, we couldn’t write this beauty story without mentioning Louise Gray’s brows – she punctuated a nude face with blue-hued brows and Alexa’s evil eye nail art – which we reveal here just how you can recreate.
