TRENDS s/s 09 - Western

Fringing, braiding, beading, cowboy hats, lariats… even a sand-strewn catwalk dotted with cacti. Yes, western is a huge trend this season and at Hermes it was taken quite literally. Jourdan Dunn worked her poncho admirably – the rest of us should probably stick with the tooled leather accessories. At Givenchy, the devil was in the detail: silver lariat-style necklaces and two-tone punched leather sandals. Balmain showed bleached and destroyed denim, plus a showstopping suede evening dress with distressed rawhide edges and bullet belts in diamante. This is a theme made for the high street: look out for suede tassle bags, fringed boots, animal skin prints and turquoise jewellery.
