You know an award's important when it's been won by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent.
Launched in 1953, the International Woolmark Prize was established to celebrate the versatility of wool in the modern age. This year, there are 80 nominees originating from more than 20 countries.
But who are we backing? Our nationality might have something to do with it.

ASHLEY WILLIAMS
Part of Pixie Geldof's squad (they attended the recent ELLE Style Awards together), Ashley Williams has been an industry favourite since graduating from the University of Westminster in 2012. Known for her fun aesthetic, her pieces reference everything from skate culture to ear piercings. With Adwoa Aboah and Georgia May Jagger having walked in her latest show, her taste in models isn't bad either.
BAARTMANS AND SIEGEL
A menswear label that bridges the gap between craftsmanship and creativity, Wouter Baartmans and Amber Siegel describe themselves as 'modern-traditionalists'. Both London College of Fashion graduates in Menswear Fashion Design and Technology, they met while staffers at Viktor and Rolf and have collaborated with Grenson and Fur Lab.
COTTWEILER
If there's any greater accolade than being scouted by FKA Twigs to create looks for her first solo UK tour, winning the International Woolmark Prize might just be it. Borne of Ben Cottrell and Matt Dainty, Cottweiler is a conceptual menswear label merging high fashion and sportwear with inimitable skill.
CRAIG GREEN
Whatever the Daily Mail and David Gandy may have thought of the wooden face sculptures in Craig Green's AW13 show (for the record: they made fun of them), his attitude towards fashion design is highly-regarded in the industry. A former Student of the late, legendary Central Saint Martin professor Louise Wilson, he has perfected the alchemy of marrying the conceptual to the wearable.
DANIELLE ROMERIL
A recipient of NEWGEN support for four consecutive seasons, Royal College of Art graduate Danielle Romeril is a womenswear designer from Dublin. If you're into unique fabric combinations constructed with a youthful edge, you'll want to wear each one of her pieces. Maisie Williams is a fan, which says a lot.
FAUSTINE STEINMETZ
When it comes to doing things with denim that have never been seen before, Faustine Steinmetz is proving to be queen. Born in Paris and based in London, the womenswear designer painstakingly dyes, spins and weaves all her own fabrics - by hand. A single pair of jeans can take a week to make, but once you see how amazing they are you'll realise it's totally worth it.
LIAM HODGES
Hailing from Kent, Liam Hodges is a member of fashion's rising guard of young designers questioning traditional gender roles. Favouring bold print, garish colour and oversized shapes, his pieces have been worn by everyone from Drake to FKA Twigs.
RYAN LO
Born in Hong Kong but based in London, Ryan Lo (and his work) is a saccharine tsunami unafraid of being conventionally pretty. If you were lucky enough to follow his personal Instagram before he made it private, you'll also know he's as hilarious as he is talented. As of late, all our romantic fantasies have involved his clothes.
