THE EIGHTIES

Marc Jacobs had a good time in the 80s. His mainline collection was testament to that. Think Dynasty goes down the disco: neon satin, huge shoulders, flamboyant patterns, volume, sequins, lamé, crimped hair and lurid eyeshadow. Every girl had a dramatically different look – but it all added up to one defiantly upbeat statement. Outrageously colourful and gloriously excessive, his Louis Vuitton collection shared the same sentiment.

Other designers caught disco fever too: Donatella Versace, whose girls always look ready to party, rocked the runway in plunging satin dresses and heavily sequinned slips, all in bright shades. Balmain also had shiny disco dolly frocks, Marios Schwab had lurid satin ruffles and Gucci teamed polka dotted or striped jersey with fabulous thigh-high boots, a huge trend for winter. Watch out for these all over the high street.
