Essentially an exhibition space for artistic creation in all its forms, The Fondation Louis Vuitton is set to open in Paris at the end of October 2014. There will be a permanent collection, an auditorium for musical performance and events and two special temporary exhibitions per year.

Commissioned by Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, its purpose is to create a modern masterpiece; "We wanted to present Paris with an extraordinary space for art and demonstarate daring and emotionwith the construction of an iconic building for the 21st century."

The idea was formed in 2001, commissioned in 2006, and the last stone finally laid in 2013. Now its ready to open to the public.

For starters? An exhibition dedicated to the architect of the building itself, award winning LA based Frank Gehry (most famous for the Guggenheim Museum), followed by a retrospective series of concerts by Kraftwerk in November. It's a diverse, important new space and one to check off your Paris Travel list when you next go.
