When I saw Hailey Baldwin at New Era's Super Bowl party in San Francisco on Saturday, the first thing I felt was deep concern.

So much slit, so little dress!

Hailey's gold snakeskin number was like a welcome mat inviting a wardrobe malfunction to waltz right in.

The model, who walked the red carpet with confidence despite her precariously slitty state, explained that she wasn't worried because with looks like this, she's always about safety first: "It is a very high-slit skirt," she agreed. "It's tricky. The dress was made this way, it's not like I had it raised or anything, it's like right perfectly placed. You just have to, you know [holds dress to her], if the wind blows. You've got to keep panties on, I'll tell you that." Wise.

In general, she says, she's not about a whole done-up look―the key is looking like you didn't put a lot of effort into it:

"Honestly I just like to throw things into an outfit that can make it casual. I don't ever like to look like I tried too hard or I'm trying too hard because I'm really never trying that hard. That's why I incorporate a lot of hats into my wardrobe, because honestly, I like to make a look look more casual with certain things. Whether that be wearing something really cool with sneakers instead of like a dressy boot, or putting on a hat with a really good outfit to make it look like its more just street wear, street style."

For a go-to sexy look, the model―who spent the evening with maybe-boyfriend Justin Bieber―says she'd choose "probably what I'm doing right now, sleek hair, sexy dress." But if it's a date night, Hailey preaches her don't-look-like-you-tried-too-hard-because-you-didn't-try-too-hard mantra: "Natural hair, fresh out of the shower—I just like to be fresh. I think if you're going out on a date, you should never start out with going too over the top. The best is to just be like this is me, no makeup, minimal makeup."
