The Clueless Computer Is Now A Thing IRL, But We're Outie

A stranger telling us what to wear? Ugh, as if!

This is the day we've all been waiting for. After 22 years of wishing Cher's outfit-picking computer would hurry up and become a thing already, it's here, but it hasn't given us the pleasure we thought it would.

In fact, it's conjured up all kinds of classic Cher reactions including, "ugh, as if!", "whatever" and "totally buggin'".

Why? Well, it just seems a little backwards.

Amazon Prime have created the 'Outfit Compare' tool, which allows you to send in two photos of different outfits. You then wait a few minute for 'qualified Amazon staff' to tell you which looks better on you, depending on several factors including fit, colour and a current trends status.

Hmmm.

The difficulty with this is that it's 2017 and times really, really have changed. The days of Gok Wan telling women that they shouldn't wear horizontal stripes are over. We're living in an age of 'wear what you damn well please' and 'girl, if you feel good in it, you look good in it.'

Even here at ELLE magazine, our aim is always to provide you with the knowledge of trends, stores, buying tricks and styling vibes to allow you to use your own body as a canvas to drape and wrap and customise and embellish in whatever way you like and in whatever manner feels good to you.

The thing about 2017 is that there are no wrong answers.

So uploading a picture to a program where a team or a computer is supposed to pronounce judgement on which is the correct thing to wear seems outmoded. No?

Sure, back in 1995 things were all about conforming. Clueless is a brilliant example of this, where high school mean-without-meaning-to-be girls told you what was cool and what wasn't. They ' fixed' your curly hair and put you in a tartan mini and plopped you in front of the boy you were supposed to fancy.

Yeah, pressures still exist today, but we've got way better at embracing individuality.

At the end of the day, technology and a panel of experts can't tell you what you feel good in, what marks you as an individual, what clothes and slogans have become badges of honour at a time when we're using our outfits to express more than just fashion.

You do you girl, because the person that knows best is yo'self.
