In the world of fashion, inspiration can come from anywhere, if Chanel's space-inspired runway show and Moschino's 'trash' Fall 2017 collection have taught us anything. For Elie Saab's newest couture collection, the muse was medieval fashion. However, at a closer look, it seemed like the real source of inspiration was the wardrobe on Game of Thrones.
It's unclear whether the designer is a diehard fan of the hit HBO series, but for devoted GoT-heads, it's nearly impossible to take a look at the latest collection—with those capes, jewel-toned velvets, and embellished gowns—and not be reminded of the show's epic looks.
There were shawls fit for a Stark, draped gowns Daenerys Targaryen might've worn, gilded accents that match Cersei Lannister's new regal look as Queen, and blood-red pieces that fit right in with Melisandre's aesthetic. Together, they made the collection come off as a high-fashion remix of Thrones.
Even the set was a giveaway. Banners with an Elie Saab sigil hung from the ceiling above rows of wooden chairs, as if attendees were seated in the Great Hall of Winterfell. The theme for the show was 'A Tale of Fallen Kings', which the brand hashtagged on photos from the presentation. It's a fitting title considering the series' harrowing death count, royalty and commoners included.
Scroll down to see some of the best GoT-inspired looks from the collection, just with a little more sparkle and luxe than what you'd find in Westeros.
