To celebrate the re-opening of its Old Bond Street store, Dolce & Gabbana staged a private show yesterday for its loyal clientele, as well as a few special industry guests. The in-store couture show combined its Alta Moda (couture womenswear), Alta Sartoria (couture menswear) and Alta Gioielleria (fine jewellery) lines and was dedicated to British style.
In the beautiful new store - now lighter and brighter than its previous incarnation with marble floors, metallic walls and plentiful Baroque accents - the fashion house sent 90-plus looks down the catwalk to a 70s Disco soundtrack. With brocade military inspired jackets, elaborately embroidered evening slippers, Victoriana lace shirts, sequin Union Jack skirts and knitwear emblazoned with royal insignia, the collection was a nod to British style as well as being resolutely on brand: a complete visual delight with the creativity and attention to detail that the Italian fashion house are known for.
