Stella McCartney will be honoured at the Fashion Awards next month with the Special Recognition Award for Innovation, it was announced by the British Fashion Council today.

The fashion designer will be praised for her contribution to ethical and sustainable fashion, something she has pioneered from day one of starting her brand almost 17 years ago.

This is a new award to be added to the line-up, making McCartney the first recipient of the prestigious accolade.

'She has created a modern business that, in turn, had led her to be at the forefront of sustainable sourcing and material innovation,' Natalie Massenet, the BFC's chairwoman told WWD. 'She is proof that high and ethical fashion combined can create astonishing results and her innovative approach to the industry is an inspiration to us all.'

The Fashion Awards will take place next Monday 4 December at the Royal Albert Hall and is sure to draw in a starry crowd, including the likes of Alessandro Michele, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Rihanna, who are just a few of the big names nominated. See all the contenders here.
