Designer Phoebe Philo is exiting Céline, WWD reports. Rumors began circulating early this fall that Philo would be leaving her post as Creative Director, but today WWD confirmed that the designer sent a note of farewell and thanks to her team:
"Working with Céline has been an exceptional experience for me these last 10 years. I am grateful to have worked with an incredibly talented and committed team and I would like to thank everyone along the way who has been part of the collaborations and conversations… it's been amazing."
According to WWD, the fall 2018 collection, which will show in March, will be the last collection by Philo. Until Philo's successor is named, the Céline team will handle the LVMH label's designs.
Philo has helmed the editor-favorite label for 10 years. Her influence and impact on fashion cannot be overstated. From the easy, slightly oversized, slightly boxy silhouettes that dominated her runways, Phoebe was a woman who designed for women. A working mom, she innately understood the need for fashion to be easy, comfortable and chic.
