In an industry first, Chopard has pledged to use 100% ethical gold in its jewellery and watch creations going forward.

By July 2018, the luxury Swiss jeweller will have stopped using any gold that is not 'acquired from sustainable sources and verified as having met international best practice environmental and social standards,' reads an official statement.

As a family run business, sustainability has always been a core value at Chopard; the house regularly produced a Green Carpet Collection - in partnership with Livia Firth's Eco Age - which featured haute joaillerie pieces that were sourced, designed and crafted according to the highest ethical standards. Now, 30 years after first beginning its sustainability journey, Chopard is able to apply this practice across its entire range - a process which has taken five years to finalise.

'We are so proud at Eco Age of this incredible milestone - not only is Chopard the only luxury jewellery and watch brand to achieve a 100% ethical gold supply chain but they did it in just five years!' Livia Firth told us. 'Today the message is loud and clear: corporate neutrality is finished.'

From July, Chopard gold will be responsibly sourced from one of two traceable routes; from small-scale mines participating in the Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) fairmined and fairtrade schemes, or from the RJC Chain of Custody, through Chopard's partnership with RJC-certified refineries.
