I’d never met designer David Koma before but we spent Monday together at Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) judging the Innovation Award. ‘You only see this level of enthusiasm and creativity in young talent,’ he told me as we interviewed more than 60 students for the award, which I will present with David (the man who put Lady Gaga in a peplum this week) and fellow judge Sarah Curran, chief executive of My-wardrobe, on Wednesday night at the GFW gala in Earls Court.

In common with all talented and successful designers I meet, David was exhausted! He'd been up all night working on orders for his collection and a presentation he gave first thing that morning before judging. I don’t think I would have remained that sweet natured and entertaining if I’d had his workload that day.

So what else has been happening since I took a week off to holiday in Cornwall with the family? Well, this week at ELLE I have been signing off the last few pages of our August issue as they go to print and beginning to read copy for our September issue. Our ELLE September cover girl has the longest legs I've ever seen and, I don’t say this lightly, the best hair of any cover star this year. You’ll love it.

I always have a wander into the fashion cupboard at some point during my day if I’m in the office and today I found these gems:

An Alexander McQueen clutch fit for the Queen. Shall we send one over to Her Majesty or is she sick of it all by now?

Love these new Rimmel London lipstick colours that were sent to the ELLE beauty team today.

Designer Vanessa Bruno is one of my favourite ladies – she told me she was learning to surf last time I had lunch with her. She sent me a ‘welcome back to work after your maternity leave’ gift today. A little bit of sunshine in the office.
