Most of my day has been focused on talking about future ELLE covers; one of the best parts of my job. As you all know we’ve shot Kristen Stewart for our June cover (subscribe here if you want the exclusive collector’s cover), but who have we got for July and August?

Next week we’re shooting a very special, historic ELLE cover in LA, so I had several meetings about clothes, finalising a mood board for the inside and outside shots and briefing our writer on what we want to know about this particular person. I’m so tempted to tell you who it is, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise.

The cover is the most important thing we do each month, so many man hours (and most of my budget) goes into getting it right – both creatively and from a business point of view. We story board every cover like a movie, hence the meetings. And on the day of the shoot the team send me pictures as they go.

As my day was office-based I kept my outfit simple. And my shoes flat – these navy Prada flatties are kept in my office shoe cupboard (what, you don’t have one?). Many of the women I work with or meet in fashion organise their shoes in boxes with Polaroids on the front or in neatly ordered cupboards. Mine aren’t even in pairs, they are in piles – a small rebellion in my otherwise organised and super-scheduled world.

I stayed indoors all day, but watched the rain pour down out of my office window. So I asked my team for suggestions on the best high-street macs, in case you need to buy one before the weekend. They recommended the following:

These two macs are from H&M. , the ELLE stylist who has been working on this blog with me, models the first one and Bargainista Fashionista spotted the second.

Others include a grey layered trench from Cos, a boxy Miss Selfridge jacket with leather-look sleeves and a mac-cape from House of Fraser.
