Each season there are always trends or pieces I resist. For example, I would cross the road to avoid a peplum and you'll never see me in a hat, however fashionable they may be. I've always felt this way about neon in all its various guises, but for S/S 2012, neon is 'the' trend. Its presence is overwhelming: just one look down Regent Street during my lunch break is enough to prove to me that everyone needs neon in their life right now.
As I hate feeling left out, I've decided to embrace it, too. Or rather, jeans-queen Donna Ida has (rather forcefully) encouraged me to embrace it. And Donna was right I love neon. Worn with more classic colours, neon is addictive. In fact, I like it so much, I may introduce Flouro Fridays at team ELLE. My flouro-yellow J Brand jeans are from Donna Ida, but I have toned down the impact with a navy blue Uniqlo sweater and Office flats, as my day is office-based and therefore heel-free.
Other brands doing great neon you might like are Mother, Current/Elliott and Closed, which is available online. Christopher Kane has done a neon collaboration with J Brand for Liberty, too, and TopShop has a huge selection, as do ASOS, River Island and Oasis. If you haven't got a pair by the weekend, youre banned from reading my blog ever again!

I had planned to tackle the fabulous Fifties-dress trend, but London's cold monsoon-like weather prevented this style trial. However, a beautiful white Alaïa dress, which looks like something you'd wear to Capri on a romantic weekend, hangs in my wardrobe at home waiting for the sun to come out. Watch this space.
And the trend to follow the dress? Isabel Marant's catwalk girl. This is so out of my comfort zone, it will require an extra-strong coffee to pull it off. I may have to call the woman herself to talk it through!

Things that caught my eye today: I haven't been in the ELLE office for nearly a year, due to my maternity leave, so every now and again things catch my eye. These are super-cute sunnies and a sign I may put on my office mirror. I am also settling into my new office, too, now that my belongings are there. We moved from Marble Arch to Soho while I was away, so it's not quite 'me' yet. More on the office rebirth later
Quick hair tips should you care: to keep your hair straight like mine, on days when the weather is as unhelpful as it can be, you are going to need a small amount of Kérastase Elixir Ultime on damp hair in the morning before blowdrying. It will stop hair frizzing and kinking in the rain.
