It was born in Seattle, but grunge is having a rebirth in New York.
Oversized denim or camouflage jackets are worn loose around the shoulders, flannel shirts are tied with reckless abandon around the waist, and pattern is kept to an insouciant stripe, a careless floral or a tongue-in-cheek polka dot.
But, as ever, the looks of note dont just hark back to the style tribes of old. Think high/low combinations like a Maison Martin Margiela jacket, Derek Lam shoes and an Alexander Wang tote, thrown together with a thrift store dress; or fresh, offbeat designs by homegrown brands such as Ampersand As Apostrophe and Funktional.
