From editors to assistants, as well as ELLE's very own girl-about-town, Mademoiselle, find out what the ELLE team are resolving to do come 2009 - and maybe you'll be inspired by what you read.
Web assistant, ELLEuk.com: As soon as payday comes round I frantically go out shopping and never buy anything I really need, like the basics, instead I go home with another clutch bag or a crazy evening dress. I’m still looking for a pair of jeans and boots, which I needed last January! So my aim is to plan key pieces to buy each month. To grow my hair! Every time it gets below shoulder length I get it chopped off. I need long hair to perfect all the spring/summer 09 hair looks.
Junior Shopping Editor, ELLEuk.com: Seeing as the credit crunch means that I probably won’t be able to buy any nice clothes for years to come my new year’s resolution is to take better care of the clothes that I already own. I’ll become a hand-washing expert when it comes to underwear, tights and cashmere, get my shoes re-heeled when they need it rather than waiting until they’re terminal cases, and hang my clothes on proper hangers or fold them neatly rather than my current wardrobe arrangement – things stuffed in drawers or hung on the floor.
Commissioning Editor, ELLE: To pay more attention to my skincare regime. Having turned 30 last year, I’m noticing the beginnings of some serious wrinkles. My multi-purpose cleansing wipes clearly aren’t cutting it anymore, so I’m going to attempt to turn back the clock by investing in a plethora of under-eye creams, night oils and serums. Well, maybe just one of each will do.
Junior Commissioning Editor, ELLE: Come 2009 Claire Sacre will be endeavoring not to sob hysterically in every sad movie she sees, not to drink every single night under the self-serving illusion that a glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away and let her long suffering boyfriend watch Top Gear, The Gadget Show and Family Guy at least once in a while without trying to steal the remote.
Fashion Features Assistant, ELLE: I always have the same resolution – to re-tox. I hate the idea of giving up everything in the most depressing month of the year, so I cheer myself by drinking and smoking through it. the best time to worry about your lifestyle is about March time when things are a bit cheerier.
Picture Editor, ELLEuk.com: My resolution is really very boring, and pretty much the same year on year (with minor variations); to get fit and stop boozing so much. I would really like to sustain a three/four times per week exercise routine (including going to African dance class EVERY week - this counts for at least two gym sessions as it's seriously hardcore). I also want to do art classes. I will not stop eating cakes ever, but I will try and minimise my two-per-day habit!
Editorial Assistant/PA to the Editor, ELLE: My fashion resolution this year is to wear more colour. I have a total blind spot when it comes to vibrant hues and I’m habitually drawn to monotone shades. My wardrobe is dominated by black, white, navy and grey. With the gloomy economic climate in mind, it’s time to inject some colour into my style and face 2009 in technicolour.
