Two years later, she had the daunting task of taking over from Karl Lagerfeld as creative director at Chloé.
Whatever reservations her predecessor might have had about her appointment, he was swiftly reassured by the critical and commerical success of her designs.
She left Chloé in 2001 to develop her own brand, and the rest is history.
The brand's campaign for SS16 was styled by Stella McCartney herself, photographed by Harley Weir and featured supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Mariacarla Boscono.
